If you read my other blog, Mommy Reporter, then you know that this past weekend I attended BlogHer 2012 in New York City. While I was there I met Kate Gosselin… you know, the reality show mom with eight kids and all the drama that happened with her and her ex-husband? Anyway, she made an appearance at the conference and I had a few moments to chat with her, and I casually mentioned that I heard that she now runs marathons.

As soon as I said that, it was like we had an instant connection. She began telling me that she does both marathons and half-marathons and how she is so “addicted” to running. I told her that I completely agree and that I’m currently training for the Rock n’ Roll marathon that will take place here in Las Vegas this December. She then told me that the Rock n’ Roll marathon series is one of her sponsors and that she will be running in the race too. And then… she actually took my information so that we could possibly chat at the race.

Now, do I really think we will connect at that race? Yes and no. Yes, because I believe that anything is possible, and no because I may be so nervous at the race that the last thing I will be thinking about is saying hi to Kate Gosselin. But whatever… we shall see and only time will tell.

But I did enjoy meeting her and I look forward to getting ready for this race… wish me luck!

So today I began running to train for a marathon. Which one? Who knows… I just know that I will be running in at least two (maybe more?) marathons this year. So I walked and ran for 21 minutes today. It was windy and cold but I was determined to do it. And I’m so glad I did.

I ran today for 21 minutes and 21 seconds. Woo hoo!

It was really tough because I ended up using my inhaler (for asthma) more times that I wanted to, but I know that as I condition my body to become a better runner, my lungs will be conditioned as well. I ran/walked just around my neighborhood and it was perfect because there are a few slopes and small hills that made the trek more challenging and interesting. It was a really sunny day and that made it even more rewarding for me.

I am so proud of myself. Even though this was literally only “baby steps,” it was still a huge move forward in the direction of my goal, which is to run a marathon this year… I’m on my way!

Just got a delivery from Amazon.com: My new running shoes!!! Yay! After much research and countless hours chatting with other runners, I decided to order these ASICS Women’s GT 2160 Running Shoes. I tried them on and they feel fantastic, but of course, the real test will be when I take these bad girls outside tomorrow for a real test run… on a real road… for an actual run, uh yeah…

As you can see, I got them in the snazzy white, teal and orange color. And since is the first time I’ve ever owned ASICS shoes, I am really anxious to see how these will work out for me. I’ve always been a “Nikey” girl in the sense that every pair of athletic shoes I’ve ever owned up until this point in my life have been Nike. Sure, I feel a bit sad about my loss of loyalty to the brand I’ve worn since high school, but I guess as I get older and learn more, my needs have changed. But that certainly doesn’t mean I won’t buy Nike products in the future.

I’ll report back in a few days on how these new shoes worked out. Wish me luck!
